Collagen is a natural protein found in mammals that makes up about 25 to 35% of all the proteins in the body. It is abundant throughout the human body in fibrous tissues such as tendons, ligaments and skin. It is also found in blood vessels, bones, the gut, and in the cornea of the eye. It is responsible for making our skin look youthful and healthy. However, as we age, the amount of collagen production becomes less and less, declining at about 1% every year.
There are many causes that increase the loss of collagen including some medications, hormones and stress. Collagen is a molecule highly used all over the body, and because of such, the body struggles to produce enough collagen to maintain cosmetic appearance. Since collagen is a very heavy and thick molecule, it is very difficult to be absorbed topically. Many collagen dietary supplements are not enough for skin care due to the high demand of collagen in the body. Collagen facials are designed to work by helping to replace lost collagen by flooding the derma to accelerate cell renewal. Exfoliation, cleansing and massage techniques help deliver the collagen deep into the skin, where cells call fibroblasts are stimulated to produce more collagen.
Our Collagen Facial begins with a cleanse and skin analysis. Cleanser is used to remove makeup, excess oils and impurities as well as to exfoliate the skin and remove dead cells from the surface, giving a clean tone to the skin. We then gently infuse oxygen, vitamins and a collagen booster into the deep layers of the skin through massage. The booster contains peptides that signal the skin to increase collagen production. Another massage is performed, followed by the application of a moisturizing cream.
Additional benefits of collagen facials include:
- The benefits are visible immediately and usually last three to six months.
- Reduces wrinkles and fine lines.
- Diminishes the appearance of scars.
- Diminishes the look of brown age and sun spots (hyperpigmentation).
- Helps to improve the look of sagging skin and eyelids.
